ARTHUR MAYO

Co-Founder / Technical Engineer

Arthur Mayo never dreamed he’d be in the bike box business. Born in East London before moving to the North West of England to the market town of Lancaster, he dropped out of high school at the age of 15 and eventually found himself in the music business. For over twenty years, Mayo worked as a rigger and traveling the globe with bands including Genesis, Metalica and The Who. “I built road cases for the bands,” says the 59 year-old. “And you had to build them exceptionally well because you couldn’t have the artists’ guitars getting broken.”

After an injury forced him off the touring circuit, Mayo founded a high-end Audio & Visual company which he sold in 2016. He, moved with his wife to Hungary, and looked for his next challenge. He soon found it. “I went to watch a triathlon and thought it would be good motivation for me,” he explains, “Five months later I entered my first half-Ironman.”

As Mayo continued to compete, he kept hearing the same complaints from riders: shipping their bikes was a nightmare. This led to an epiphany. “I’ve built road cases,” he recalls. “Why don’t I just do the same for bikes?” Two years later, the Vault Sports Box became a reality. “I’m too old to become an elite athlete,” he says with a laugh. “But at least I’ve helped create the world’s best bike box.”

Trevin Hermosillo

Co-Founder / R&D

‘If a man can build it, a man can fix it.’ It’s an adage that Trevin Hermosillo, co-founder of Vault Sports Box, lives by. Born and raised in northwest Montana, Hermosillo has been building, repairing, and inventing machines and products and for as long as he can remember. “While other kids were playing with Legos,” he says. “I was tinkering with the tools in my father’s garage.”

That ‘tinkering,’ combined with a powerful entrepreneurial spirit, has led Hermosillo to a wildly diverse career: railroad mechanic, co-founder of an apparel & adventure brand, and founder of Gearshift Garage, a YouTube-centric storytelling platform. “In all of my endeavors, I’ve loved pushing myself and whatever I’m building to the limit,” says the 38-year-old. “That’s how you learn.”

Those limits would be tested once again with the Vault Sports Box. When co-founder Arthur Mayo approached him with the idea to create a revolutionary bike box, Hermosillo knew it wouldn’t be easy. But it’s exactly the challenge he loves. “The research, the testing, the process took years,” explains Hermosillo. “But when I see people use the Vault Sports Box and hear how thrilled they are, I know it was all worth it.”
